“WITH BEST WISHES”
XMAS THOUGHTFULNESS COVER BOXES FIRST A length o£ small-patterned wall- j paper, some pieces of satin ribbon of i varying colours, in addition to a pile I of cardboard boxes in odd sizes, and a few spare liours, are a good and rather inspiring beginning to the preparation of Christmas presents. The boxes should be fairly sound, or if slightly broken away at the j turns the cracks should be pasted over firmly with strong paper before cover- J ing them, and when this is done all that is necessary to make charming receptacles for the gifts yon intend to give is the cutting and pasting of the figured paper on to the cardborad. The easiest way to cover the boxes is to cut strips for the sides first, allowing a quarter to half an inch at each edge for turnings. Paste these into place, and to prevent unsightly bulking where the paper overlaps at the corners, cut small nicks until it fits neatly. The top is covered with another piece of the paper, which is cut to reach just to the edges, overlapping by the fraction of an inch the turning of the side pieces, which have been brought up over on to the top. Put inside the box loosely a piece of coloured tissue paper, leaving enough to wrap across your gift, and tie up the closed box with satin ribbon matching-the paper inside. If the floral paper chosen for covering has several colours in it, you can use ribbons which will match at least one of them for the different parcels, thus showing a little more thoughtfulness in your preparations.
,011 the front. The novel Elizabethan collar adds a distinctive note. A frock of chartreuse green crepe de chine featuring an unusual triangular trimming of yellow flannel stitched with gold and green is seen in the third drawing. The sporting girl is catered for in the last. With this mannish costume of light grey kasha, is worn a brilliant neck-tie matching a large handkerchief carried inside the left cuff with one long point protruding to give a dash of colour.
