THEFT FROM CHURCHES
CARPENTER’S LIKING FOR CLOCKS REMANDED FOR SENTENCE William James Hart went to church twice this week. He was careful not to be seen, however, as after each visit he left with the church clock. At the Police Court this morning Hart, a carpenter, aged 48, pleaded guilty to stealing a clock valued at 30s trom the Rev. C. A. B. YY'atson, and a second clock, valued at £l, from the Kev. YY’alter Averili. lie also admitted stealing a radio set valued at £5 17s, the property of David Graham Cole. According to Chief-Detective Hammond. Hart had stolen the clocks from rft. Paul’s and All Saints* .Churches The wireless set had been taken from the back of a motor-car. “The goods have all been recovered, but are not in as good a condition as when they were taken,” concluded the chiefdetec tive. who asked that Hart be remanded until Thursday for sentence.
