£70,000,000 PARADISE

MR. STALLWORTHY IN POETIC MOOD ROSY WORD-PICTURES Painting a glowing picture of New Zealand as a Switzerland of the South, with tourists spending millions yearly, and taking away nothing but glorious memories, Mr. A. J. Stall worthy, United Party candidate for Eden, entertained an Epsom audience evening. The candidate said that Sir Joseph Ward’s £70,000,000 was a trifle compared with the debt which had been piled up by the Reform Government during a few years. He said a man of great financial ability and constructive capacity was needed to take charge of the country’s affairs. “Where shall we find him?” he asked. “Harry Holland,” said a helpful member of the audience. The £70,000,000 loan scheme was sound, said the candidate, who briefly sketched the paradise following on Sir Joseph’s railway relief works scheme for unemployment. “There are 27,000,000 acres of potential agricultural country in New Zealand wanting to be developed for the world’s markets and waiting for a Minister of Lands with vision,” ne said enthusiastically. “We offer, under the banner of the United Party, to supply such a man.” Mr. Stallworthy drew his glowing address to a conclusion with a vers< that sugested that New Zealand would outrival the Garden of Eden. The candidate was accorded a vot*of thanks and confidence at the close of his address.
