SWIMMING CENTRE

At a meeting of the Auckland Amateur Swimming Club last evening, the University Club was granted affiliation to the centre, subject to the completion of minor arrangements. The club sent particulars of its rules and membership. There are 40 swimmers. The centre was informed that, owing to vacations, the club would not be able to hold a carnival before January 14. The Parnell Club was granted permission to hold a gymkhana in the afternoon of December 1, and the Grammar Club was given permission to hold a carnival at the Tqf>id Baths on December 12. After lengthy discusson. a recommendation that, in future, the city clubs should be asked to hold firstclass handicaps on their programmes, was referred back to the clubs for consideration. On the motion of Mr. W. Batty, it was decided to award, in future, certificates to place-winners in Auckland championships.
