MANGERE MOTOR CAMP
AN IDEAL SITE A.A.A. CO-OPERATION Reporting to the Onehunga-Manukau Chamber of Commerce last evening the negotiations being conducted for the establishment of a camping site for motorists at Mangere Fountain, the president, Mr. D. Kirk-Jones, said that the committee of the chamber had met the members of the Mangere Domain Board and the president and other representatives of the Auckland Automobile Association on the ground and all were agreed that it would be difficult to find a more suitable area near Auckland. He referred to an arrangement having been made for the use of rhe showgrounds at Epsom as a temporary site, but the A.A.A. considered that there was room for both areas, and it was prepared to erect signposts from Papatoetoe Mangere for the guidance of tourists, but w r ould not subsidise the scheme in any other form. Mr. Kirk-Jones mentioned that at one time last summer no fewer than 65 motor-cars were parked at one time at the Aramoho camp, and the whole of the camping site at Rotorua was fully booked up for thet coming season. He considered that a camp site at Mangere would be an acquisition not only to Auckland but to Onehunga. Mr. Kirk-Jones also reported that he had received advice that the additional train put on at mid-day between Penrose and Onehunga as a trial, at the chamber’s request, had proved a distinct success and would probably be continued. *
