Last Day of the Trots

(Special to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH* To-day. THE Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting concluded to-day in splendid weather. The track was in good order and the attendance very large. Results:—

GOVERNOR’S HANDICAP Of £300; 1} miles 2—NELSON BOY, 24yds 1 11—YOUNG CARBINE, 12yds 2 B—SARSPARILLA, 60yds 3 All started. Won by a neck. Time, 3.27 1-5. All moved away well. Mount Royal going to the lead from Young Carbine, Lady Fan, Nelson Boy and Nelson McKinney. There was no alteration until the field was going out of the straight the second time, where Mount Royal broke and Nelson Boy took the lead from Young Carbine and Lady Fan, with Sarsaparilla and Happy Rosa making up ground from the Pack. Nelson Boy was first into the straight, closely attended by Young Carbine, Lady Fan, Nelson McKinney, Mount Royal and Sarsaparilla. In a great finish Nelson Boy hung on to win by a short neck irom Young Carbine, who was a head in front of Sarsaparilla. Lady Fan was a head away, fourth, and then came Happy Rosa and Nelson McKinney. ENFIELD HANDICAP Of £300; 1 mile B—GENERAL BINGEN, limit 1 2—AUGUSTE DILLON, 12 yds .. .. 2 1- —JEAN McELWYN, 24yds 3 Scr.: Author Jinks. Won by a neck. Time,. 2.11 3-5. Darknite was an early leader, but passing the stand General Bingen showed the way to Darknite, Amaris, Auguste Dillon and Golden Devon. The same order was maintained down the back, but at the tanks Auguste Dillon drew level with General Bingen. The last-named now drew out across the top, and they led into the straight from Golden Devon, Darknite, Bonny Logan, Jean McElwyn and General Bingen. Auguste Dillon had a great set-to down the straight, but General Bingen got the judge’s verdict by a neck. Jean McElwyn was half a length away, third, followed by Bonny Logan, Darknite, Golden Devon, Epigram, Native Chief, Amaris and Fight Ever. * CHRISTCHURCH HANDICAP Of £1,000; 2 miles 4—TALARO, 24yds 1 2 .TACK POTTS. 42yds 2 7—WAITAKI GIRL, 36yds 3 Scr.: Peterwah. Won by a length. Time, 4.26 1-5. Vesuvius led past the stand from Kohara, Talaro, Jewel Pointer, Cardinal Logan, Waitaki Girl, and Jack Potts. There was no change in this order until leaving the straight for the last time, when the field began to bunch. Vesuvius led Kohara down the

stretch, and at the tanks the order was Vesuvius, Kohara, Talaro, Jewel Pointer, Waitaki Girl, Cardinal Logan, and Jack Potts. Jack Potts

and Waitaki Girl moved up smartly racing across the top. but Vesuvius still held charge at the straight entrance. Talaro ran past Vesuvius when the field straightened up for home, and in a good finish Talaro beat Jack Potts by a length, with Waitaki Girl a neck away third, followed by Kohara, Jewel Pointer, and Cardinal Logan. AUSTRALASIAN HANDICAP Of £400; 2 miles 2 —INVADER, 24yds 1 4—DUNDAS BOY, 36yds 2 7—LAPLANDER. 36yds 3 Scr.: Chimer, Lingfield. Won by half a length. Time, 4.35 1-5. OTAHUHU TROTS OPEN NEXT WEEK THE ACCEPTANCES The spring fixture of the Otahuhu Trotting Club is to be held at Alexandra Park on Saturday and Wednesday, November 17 and 21. The following are the acceptances for the first day: THE ABBEY’S PENALTY Mr. Gooseman has penalised The Abbey 48yds in the Manukau Handicap on the opening day, Thursday next, of the Otahuhu spring meeting, and the horse is now on 60yds. The Abbey won the Riccarton Handicap at Addington on Tuesday, going 4.29. The acceptances for the first day of the Otahuhu fixture close at 5 p.m., and will be published shortly after that hour.
