Scenes bordering on the disorderly were witnessed in the Early Settlers' Hall to-day, when Mrs. Margaret Young, Independent Eabout candidate for Wellington Central, ..ddressed an audience composed entirely of women. When the candidate rose to speak, she met with a hostile reception, her remarks being punctuated with interjections of a personal nature. At her meeting held in Wellington on November 5 Mrs. Young stated that the Waihi strike was engineered by Mr. Holland and Mr. Semple. The Press Association has since been informed that neither Mr. Holland nor Mr. Semple was in New Zealand at the time referred to. and it l.iuch regrets any inconvenience that may have been caused by the publication of the statement.
