Tli© number of informal votes negligible. Only one was recorded at tli© Town Hall booth. On a total roll of 40,816 the number who voted was 7,829, or slightly over 19 per cent. Mr. Schmidt saved the forfeiture < l his deposit of £3 by a margin of Isu votes. The returning officer, Mr. P. F. Xotley, and his stall again demonstrate*] their efficiency. Two telephones together at 7.7 p.m., and St. Heliers and Kohimaramara shared the honouof being first in. The Town Hall, with the largest vote, was an easy winae.over the Chamber of Commerce anu Ley’s Institute, which were last, but | all the returns were in, and the result announced at 7.45 p.m., three-quarter.- j of an hour after the poll closed. The result was applauded at various I theatres, where it was displayed. Several hundred inquiries for the result. l I were answered on The Sun telephones. It is probable that Mr. Bloodworth will take his seat at the council table I to-night. This depends on whether the returning officer can get through j the scrutiny of the rolls and official count to-day. Mr. Notley expects to | be finished at 4 p.m.
