AFTER DRINKING BOUT
YOUNG MAN WHO ROBBED FORMER EMPLOYER “GOT PROPERLY DRUNK” According to Colin Scott O’Brien, drink is his great trouble and the reason why he broke into a warehouse one evening last week and stole £6. O’Brien, a labourer, aged 25, pleaded guilty at the Police Court this morning to breaking and entering the warehouse of .Tames Hargreaves, where he stole £6 11s 81d. In a statement made to the police, O’Brien said that he had served his time in the metal-working trade with Mr. Hargreaves, whose employ he had left about three years ago. On November 1 he was under the influence of liquor and gained admission to the warehouse in Lorn© Street by climbing through a fanlight. He knew where the key of the office was kept and opened the door, finding the money, which he took with him. With the £ G O’Brien said that he got properly drunk and, as far as he could remember, spent the night on the Ulimaroa. “I was so ashamed,” continued the statement, “that I attempted to leave New Zealand, but was put off the boat. I then went into the country and have remained there since.” O’Brien, who declared himself to be willing to take out a prohibition order and make restitution, was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
