PRINCE EDWARD

“THE SUNSET LEGION” Fast action is the keynote of the new Western story by Fred Thomson, The Sunset Legion,” to be shown this evening at the Prince Edward Theatre. Even the opening of this story is thrilling. Excited activity is evident around the office of a gold mine in a western town during the early 90’s. They are getting ready to send out a shipment of gold dust and are worried because there have been robberies of several previous shipments. Old Bill, the mineowner, the sheriff, Susan, old Bill’s daughter, and others, watch the loading of the sacks into the boot of a stage coach to which six horses are atached. Susan objects to the shipment before the arrival of rangers, but the sheriff promises protection. All watch the departure the stage coach whirls off down the hill from the mine. The holdup comes quickly in a gully not far away. Sounds of firing can be heard in the settlement. Another Western film, “Horsemen Of the Plains,” starring Tom Mix, is the second attraction. GARDEN FETE EVENT AT ELLERSLIE CONVENT A Christmas tree laden with good things in surprise packets will be in evidence at the grand garden fete and sale of tvork to be held in the grounds of the Sisters of the Mission Convent, Ellerslie, on Saturday afternoon. There will be side shows and stalls of all kinds, a jumble sale and the usual tearooms. A band will probably be in attendance and, to cap all, there will be races for the children. For the mothers there will be a cooking exhibition by the Gas Company. The convent is located on the Panmura Road, Ellerslie. and the fete being for a good cause it is expected the attendance will be large. ADELPHI, GREY LYNN “SLIGHTLY USED” “Slightly Used,” is the title of the enjoyable comedy-drama to be shown this evening at the Adelphi Theatre, Grey Lynn. May McAvoy and Conrad Nagel are the stars. The story tells of a girl who spread the tale that she was secretly married to a Major John Smith. There was a real Major Smith and he investigated this fictitious wife, but in so doing they fell very much in love. The girl’s task was then to prove that she had never been married. A fascinating and stirring railway drama, “The Midnight Limited.” starring Gaston Glass and Wanda Hawley, will also be shown. Fred Maekaye and Gustave Partos are the most recent players added to the cast of “The Play Goes On” at Universal City. Dr. Paul Fejos is developing this Conrad Veidt-Mary Fhilbin picture in talkng sequences.
