LEFT FOR SIX MONTHS
RAISING ONE TREE HILL TO BOROUGH CHAIRMAN’S CASTING VOTE By a 4—3 vote last evening, the One Tree Hill Road Board decided to defer for six months the question of elevating the district to borough status. Mr. R. G. Clark had given notice of motion of his proposal to make the district a borough. He provided a lengthy history of the road district system operating in New Zealand, and estimated the immediate gain from a change of status to be £ 957. Mr. H. B. Dobbie, chairman, was not in favour of the change, op the ground that non-owners of property would have a vote as well as owners. Another member who favoured the proposal pointed out that about 75 per cent of those entitled to vote in the district were owners. Mr. J. S. Hardwicke’s amendment, that consideration should be deferred for six months was carried as a motion, the chairman giving the casting vote.
