EVENING SPORTS
MEETING AT DOMAIN SPECTACULAR CYCLING The first of a series of evening sports meetings, promoted by the Auckland Athletic and Cycling Club, was held on the Domain last evening. The cycle events were spectacular, even thrilling, the brilliant riding of J. H. Wade in the senior grade event proving a feature of the evening’s sport, while in the B grade race, over a mile, three riders flashed past the post together to make an exciting finish. The hundred yards dash saw E. T. Mincham, a promiisng sprinter, who was fortunate in getting away well after all the false starts, romp in for a good win by two yards from Butler. Elliott put in a lightning finish, being beaten for* second place honours by a mere foot. The half-mile saw a very classy bunch face the staretr in Savidan, Watts, Barker. Garlick and others. The distance, however, proved too far for the ex-Auckland champion quar-ter-miler, A. C. Garlick, who could not be considered as being in the picture at any particular stage of the journey. The winner was J. A. Crum, olf 40ycls. He ran a heady race. Taking the lead in the early stages of the second quarter, he kept his distance from the two crack men of the field.
