BIG GUNS WILL FIRE FROM NORTH HEAD
COAST BATTERY TO CAMP HUDSON CUP CONTEST The 13th Coast Battery will go into camp at North Head on November 24 and will remain in camp for a wek. This will be the of the annual camps in the Auckland district. The Battery • Commander will be Captain J. Craig, of the New Zealand Artillery, and there will be about 100 men. The usual work will be done, and the six-inch Mark 7 gun, as well as the 12-pounders, will be in operation. Last year objections were raised to the firing of the six-inch gun, and a petition was presented praying that the gun be put out of operation, at least in its present location. However, the request was not acceded to. On the last two days of the camp the battery will endeavour to gain the Hudson Cup at present held by the 15th Coast Battery in Wellington. This cup is decided on a general competition covering the whole of the work of the battery, including a falling-in inspection, practice series with the six-inch, 12-pounder and Lewis guns, signalling and other practical tests. Last year Wellington secured the cup with 913 points, Auckland securing 897, so that the competition was very close. The maximum points possible are 1,250. On the first Sunday of the camp the battery will hold the usual “At Home.’’
