TAKAPUNA MAN S FATE

EVIDENCE AT INQUEST

“Death through drowning, hastened by an epileptic fit." was the coroner's verdict at an inquest held this morning on the death of Christopher Blenkhorn. Mr. Blenkhorn. a single man, aged 33. was drowned at Takapuna yesterday afternoon. Clifton Albert Loose G naves. a labourer, saw Mr. Blenkhorn swimming off the beach about three o’clock. He came in close to the shore and stood up in about three feet of water. The next time witness looked in his direction the swimmer had disappeared. Knowing him to be a strong swimmer, however. Mr. Graves had no fear for the man’s safety until he saw his shoulder above the water. He then rushed down, pulled Mr. Blenkhorn out of the water, and applied artificial respiration, but his efforts were of no avail. Alexander Bronte, a doctor, who had been summoned to the beach. considered that Air. Blenkhorn had fallen forward in the water while under the influence of a lit and had been drowned. Further medical evidence showed that Air. Blenkhorn was subject to e.pileptic fits, which used to occur about every six weeks.
