MAP OF NORTH ISLAND
A.A.A.’S CREDITABLE PRODUCTION The Motorists’ Road Map (North Island) has just been published by the Auckland Automobile Association, and is a most creditable production. It is easily the finest road map that has ever been published in New Zealand. The North Island is covered by four sectional maps, each so minutely accurate and comprehensive that it is. of necessity, fairly large. The first map, for example, is approximately ISin by 34in., and the second approximately 24in by 30in. The scale is seven miles to the inch. The maps are printed on exceptionally good quality paper and fold into a strongly stitched map wallet. FOUR COMPLETE AREAS The first sheet, the northern section, covers from Auckland to the North Cape. The second sheet, western section, covers Auckland to Taranaki and Wanganui, National Park, Taupo, Rotorua, Tauranga and King Country. The third sheet, eastern section, covers Bay of Plenty to Gisborne and Napier, Rotorua, Taupo, National Park. The fourth sheet, southern section, covers Wellington to Wanganui. Palmerston North, Taihape and Napier. IN THREE COLOURS The maps are printed in black, red and green, to show the different classes of roads. The first section deals with the main routes, and is further subdivided to show all-weather roads, roads passable almost always, and clay roads. The second section, secondary roads, shows both all-weather roads and clay roads. Intermediate mileages are shown on all main routes, and official camping - grounds are clearly marked. A feature of the map is the amount of general historical information shown. Scenic spots are marked, also points renowned in Maori lore, and early New Zealand history. Altogether these maps are a credit to the A.A.A.
