BAYNE WINS WRESTLING
BOUT AT TE AWAMUTU PRO. AND AMATEUR CONTESTS (From Our Own Correspondent) TE AWAMUTU, Monday. W. Bayne, who appeared for the first time as a professional wrestler at Te Awamutu, on Saturday, was successful in defeating Joe Dufty, of Hamilton, on points, no fall having been secured. The contest did not prove very interesting, both men being on their feet for the greater part of the time. Mr. J. McLachlan acted as referee. A very bright five minutes’* exhibition bout between Jack McLachlan (challenger of Bayne) and C. Jones, a clever and fast local lad, roused the spectators to enthusiasm. Several preliminary bouts by members of the Te Awamutu Young Men’s Institute were staged, and all proved bright and interesting. Following are the results: J. Butterworth lost to R. Churches; C. Jones beat L. Woolston: T. R. Wenham beat A. Jackson; R. Wenham beat D. Hunter on points. The referee, Mr. Jack Fulton, congratulated the contestants upon their splendid displays.
