AT long r odds, Peter Bingen, tenth favourite, scored a surprise victory in tlie New Zealand Trotting Cup, run at Addington this afternoon, and paid, a big double-figure dividend. Great Bingen, an older full-brother to the winner, was second, and Ahuriri, winner of the last two Cup contests, was third. Results:— \

SPRING HANDICAP Of £300; li miles. Limit 3.31 I—TONIC, Limit 1 S—SARSAPARILLA, 12yds 2 3—DOLORES, Limit 3 Dolores was coupled with Frisco Beau. Scratched: Nighborn. Won by three lengths. Time, 3.27. Nelson Boy broke some gear at the start, and was pulled up. Tonic soon took up the running and led past the post the first time from Nelson McKinney, Dolores, Sarsaparilla and Young Carbine. There was little change for the next two furlongs, but going out of tlie straight the last time the order was Tonic, Nelson McKinney, Sarsaparilla, Dolores and Lady Fan. Tonic and Sarsaparilla drew out slightly along the back, and they led across the top and into the straight from Mangout'u and Dolores, who were together. Tonic easily held his own in the run down the straight, and defeated Sarsaparilla, who broke 100 yards from the post, by three lengths. Dolores was a similar distance away third, followed by Mangouto, Nourmahal, Lady Fan, Frisco Beau, Nelson McKinney, Our Lady and Young Carbine, with Little Logan last. Times: 3.27, 3.26 3-5, 3.28 3-5. ST. ALBAN’S HANDICAP Of £300; 1 mile. Limit 2.14. 6—COUNTRYMAN, 24yds 1 3 AUTHOR JINKS, 48yds 2 1— AM ARTS, Limit 3 Scratched: Auguste Dillon. Won by a length. Time, 2.10 2-5. Rebel failed to go away. Amaris and Darknite took up the early running, and out of the straight the last time showed the way to General Bingen, Shine Soon and Countryman. Along the back Amaris and Darknite drew out from General Binen, and at the tanks Couniyman began to improve liis position. A little later Author Jinks became prominent, Amaris, Countryman and Author Jinks being abreast racing into the straight, but once straightened up for home Countryman drew out. He was not extended over the last bit and beat Author Jinks by a length. Amaris was six lengths away third, followed by General Bingen, Darknite, Shine Soon, Henry Logan and Trimmer.
