MINING NEWS ALB URN I A.—The manager reports;— • The drive north on hangingwall branch of the Orlando Reef has been extended 6ft., a total of 300 ft. from centre of main . losscut west. This branch is lOin. wide and is looking well, carrying nice mineral and silica. The cross reef we are also carrving in the drive averages 18irr. wide, but is still a little mixed with mullock. There is still a horse of mullock between the two reefs about 2ft. wide, of a good class of country mixed with mineral veins and quartz stringers. There is a little water coining out of the face on both reefs, which may mean there is more quartz ahead. The country rock on both walls is still of a very firm . lass, but is good for carrying reefs and for making gold. The rise on dropper ■ •ft' Sons of Freedom reef has been risen r*ft.. a total of 63ft. The reef here averages lOin. wide and is improving carrying nice blight mineral and silica, and lying on a firm hanging wall. Tne country on the footwall is of a good firm class for making gold, being interlaced with quartz stringers and mineral veins.*’ LUCKY SHOT.—The manager reports: "The drive south on the main reef off the bottom of No. 2 winze was connected up with the No. 1 winze at the beginning of the week. We have been doing some repairs to No. 1 winze to enable us to work from this winze in the future, driving south on the reef, which will be started on Monday. The reef here shows a width of 3ft.. and is a very promisinglooking body of ore, showing gold. The work of cleaning out the low level on the Waiotahi side is proceeding satisfactorily.’*
