“NOT HUMANITARIAN”
MR. COATES AND UNEMPLOYED Protesting against the Prime Minister’s attitude toward the unemployment problem, Mr. A. a. Richards, Labour candidate for Roskill, addressed two well-attended open-air meetings last evening. Mr. Richards said that Mr. Coates had recently told a deputation of unemployed it was time they stopped hanging about the neck of the Governments That, contended the candidate, was not a statesmanlike or a humanitarian utterance. Mr. Richards, in dealing with the taxation question, said the Government had given huge reductions to the wealthy, at the same time “cutting” the wages of civil servants.
