STEAMER ON ROCKS
THURSDAY ISLAND MISHAP PASSENGERS STILL ABOARD (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Received 11.30 a.m. THURSDAY ISLAND, Sunday. The Nippon Yusen Kaisha’s line steamer Tango Maru, 6,593 tons, which went aground on Gippa Rocks, near the western entrance to Thursday Island Harbour, is believed to be leaking. The passengers, however, are remaining aboard at present. The ship’s position is reported to be safe.
