VETERAN ATHLETE IS I 1 PLACED IN HALF-MILE 6 . |.j' (From Our Own Correspondent) k WAIHI, Sunday. The Waihi Cycling and Athletic f> Club’s sports, which had been post- - poned from Labour Day, were held on Jj Saturday. The fieflds for the various events were h small, but the racing was keen and e provided some excellent sport. The e most popular competitor was the - veteran, J. McKean, the grand old man s of foot-running, who turned out in the half-mile and mile handicaps. Anno s Domini and the handicapper, however, were too many for the veteran in the . half-mile, but he received a great ovation wheji he ran second to F. Dye ; in the mile. r| In the cycling, Pilkington, a 16r year-old youth, carried off the chief ; honours, being first in the mile and - two miles, and second to Harcourt in - the three miles after a rehandicapping -in Harcourt’s favour.
