WAIPA’S FIXTURE
TO BE HELD NEXT MONTH A HANDSOME TROPHY (Special to THE SUN) TE AWAMUTU, To-day. j Mr. A. S. Wallace presided at the committee meeting of the Waipa Rac- ! ins Club at Te Awamutu on Friday evening. Also present: Messrs. F_ Quin, IT. Weal, J. P. O’Sullivan, S. A, Empson. J. T. Young, A. H. Storey. A. Bond, C. F. Storey, S. C. Mack, T. G. Martin, M. H. Tims and the secretary. Mr. J. G. Wynyard. The secretary reported that the programme for the forthcoming meeting had been approved by the district committee. Stake money and conditions are practically identical with those of a year ago, except that a gold cup would be added to the stake for the Te Awamutu Cup. It was reported that Mr. Montgomerie’s tender for the bootH rights had been accepted, and he was making the necessary application for the licence. The tender of Messrs. Adams and Son for the refreshment catering was accepted. Mr. Tims stated that several sporting farmers had clubbed together to present a 50-guinea gold cup as a trophy for the winner of the Te Awamutu Cup event at the forthcoming meeting. He was assured of £53. and he would endeavour to collect enough to also provide a gold-mounted whip for the rider of the winner. The trophy would be a beautiful and substantial one, weighing 10oz., and of 9ct. gold, with oak plinth, and on the cup itself would be the club’s monogram. Mr. Tims remarked that if the promoter next year found the task of securing subscriptions as easy as he had this year they would be agreeably surprised at the goodwill to the club. The following new members were elected:—Messrs. A. Reid. H. L. Russell, R. Hodges, D. Dunlop, W. Herliky, J. W. Ferguson, M. Rennie, L. M. Gane,
P. Balfour, J. A. Anderson. A. Cullen. J. Wallace, A. Ferguson, W. Long. A. T. Cooper, R. L. Henderson, M. Manawaiti, V. Pollard and J. C. Wilson. The question of service fees due to the Country Clubs’ Breeders’ Association came up for discussion. Mr. H. Were (the club’s delegate) intimated that the matter would be finalised on November 17. He did not know what action the association would take, whether to sue defaulters or otherwise; but the intention was to wind up the enterprise.
