Ted Lewis, the master showman of jazz, has been signed for a Vitaphone picture. His first film will be a backstage story called “Is Everybody Happy?”
Richard Barthelmess’s first picture work since his return from his Honolulu honeymoon will be on “Out of the Ruins,” a story by Sir Philip Gibbs.
First National announces that its picture, “The Lost World,” with all Us animated dinosaurs, pleistosaurs, and the rest of the saurs, was announced by Judge Ben Lindsey as his favourite picture of all time.
The Spanish blood of Ramon Novarro did not thrill to the call of the bullring on his recent visit to Spain. “There were too many more interesting things to see,” he said, in explanation of the reason he had attended not a bull-fight.
In his new picture, “The Mask of the Devil,” John Gilbert can look either good or evil, without altering (lie expression of his face. The trick is in the use of different kinds of light. One gives his face an evil appearance, and the other imparts a good look.
Phil Ainsworth, ex-husband of the late Barbara La Marr, has been sentenced to fourteen years in Folsom penitentiary as a forger. Ainsworth was on trial once before, prior to Miss La Mart’s death, as a forger. He formerly was her dancing partner.
Matt Moore, who plays the part of Jeffrey in “Beware of Blondes,” recently was injured when he dived through a plate glass window during the taking of an exciting shot. The window had been broken beforehand, to prevent accident, but Mooro missed the hole and nearly severed'his thumb as well as incurring other cuts and bruises.
