GIRL BADLY WOUNDED
SHELL-SHOCKED SOLDIER’S THREAT
DRAMATIC OFFICE SCENE (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, Thursday. There was a dramatic scene on the fourth floor of Abbey House, in Victoria Street, London, at the offices of the Income Tax Payers’ Society. Lord Decies, the president of the society, had said good-night to his secretary, Miss Patricia Johnson, aged 25, and was walking downstairs when he heard the girl shrieking. The men clerks, who were still on the premises', had seen a caller go to her room. They found the door locked, and forced it open and entered. They found the girl bleeding from an arm, and a man on the window-ledge who threatened to hurl himself into the street if anybody approached. The man was dissuaded from jumping and was found also to be wounded. He was taken to hospital, and an operation was performed. The girl, who was in a critical condition, was taken to a nursing home. Miss Johnson’s father says the couple were friends. The man is a widower, who served in the war and was shell-shocked.
