BETTER TIMES

Fewer Bankruptcies This Year SUBSTANTIAL DECREASE Bankruptcy figures for Auckland during the past ten months show substantial decreases compared with the returns for similar periods in 1526 and 1927. The official assignee. Mr. G. N Morris takes the improved returns a< an indication of better conditions. H~ points out that the vast majority of bankruptcy cases have come from tfc city and large country areas have provided none at all. This improvement in the country should be followed by better times ic the centres,” is Mr. Morris’s opinion. During this year, in only two months were there more cases than ia corresponding months in 1927. The decreases have been notable on the other hand. For instance, in June 1928, there were only nine cases. In June last year there were 29. The returns for 1926 and 1927 include bankruptcies from the Hamilton district. An addition of about 35 to this year’s figures would make a truer comparison. Early this yeah the Hamilton district was separated froja Auckland, but apart from that fact, the returns show a greatly improved position. They are:
