NO USE FOR INDEPENDENTS
Sir.— With four different political parties in the field, there is surely confusion enough without independent candidates adding to it. It looks as though the losers may turn out to be the winners, as in the late World War. The independent candidates might do the country good service by retiring before election day proves to them that, whether rich or poor, we are all interdependent as long as we live. Only the dead can be independent. WILLIAM PERRY. Great Barrier Island.
