TO-MORROW’S TENNIS TEST
pOUR STALWARTS—the best England can produce—begin a tennis match to-morrow against the Dominion. It will be a comparison of standards of play between the Mother of the game and one of her lusty infants which once upon a time produced an Anthony Wilding. New Zealand suffers from isolation. Tennis is a game which is changing rapidly all the time ; the English started it, but the Americans and Frenchmen have improved it out of all recognition. There are only two ways in which the Dominion game can keep up with the times; the frequent visits of overseas teams and the importation of professionals. We had the Frenchmen last year and the Englishmen this year, so let us hope that the Americans may come in the next season. Anything may happen in the test match. Only one of the New Zealanders, Geoff. Ollivier, has played against the Englishmen. He defeated Gregory but went down to the stylist, Austin. Bartleet, France and Wilson, the other three, have not reached real form at this, the beginning of our season, but they are tried, trusty and seasoned.
