TOWN AND COUNTRY AFTERNOON AT LYCEUM CLUB.

On Tuesday the Amusement Committee of the Lyceum Club arranged a delightful afternoon for town and country members. Two friendly competitions were won by Mrs. Gummer (Morrinsville) and Mrs. Andrews. An artistic pianoforte solo was given by Miss B. Higgott and much appreciated. Songs were sung by Mrs. A. Sims, Mrs. J. Oliphant and Mrs. C. Bennett, and recitation by Mrs. F. Bullock. The accompaniments to the songs were played by Mrs. H. J. McMillan, Mrs. Stace and Mrs. H. Hammond. Those present were Mesdames H. Douglas, H. J. Grenslade, J. Paget, W. H. Hume, H. T. Gillies. FAREWELL PARTY IN TE AWAMUTU A very enjoyable evening was given by Mr. and Mrs. F. Bevin to Mr. and ; Mrs. Whittington prior to their departure for Woodville. The room was i gay with lemon and gold flowers. A great deal of laughter and fun was i caused by two competitions, which were | won by Mrs. Whittington and Mr. Smith. Several of those present sang, : and at supper time Mr. Bernie, on behalf of the staff of the Bank of New Zealand, asked Mr. and Mrs. Whittington to accept a set of crystal goblets and jug as a parting gift from them. SOUTHWELL SPORTS On Saturday afternoon the grounds of Southwell School were thronged with vistors from far and near, who came to see the boys hold their annual sports.

Mrs. Sergei wearing a frock of flow'ered chiffon, with which she wore a black crinoline hat, received the guests. She was assisted by Miss Noreen Sergei, who. looked smart in a cream spelts suit.
