NORTHCOTE PLAY AREA
The equipment for the children’s playing area on the Municipal Recreation Reserve at Northcote, consisting of a seesaw, seven swings, rock-a-bye swing, two chutes, and a pole slide, are now in course of construction. The members of the Northcote Residents and Ratepayers’ Association tendered their thanks last evening to Messrs. J. H. Jones and the borough overseer for their valuable services in drawing plans and specifications for the work. It was decided to. hold a special meeting at an early date to consider the matter of obtaining the necessary number of subscribers to enable the installation of the automatic telephone syptem to be made in the combined boroughs.
TOFUA SAILS 11 A.M. TO-MORROW. —At 11 a.m. to-morrow the iocal office of the Union Company hopes to dispatch the Island passenger steamer Tofua for Fiji, Tonga and Samoa. DEVON DELAYED. The Federal steamer Devon, which is loading under the agency of ? the New Zealand Shipping Company, was unable to finish her loading at Auckland last evening, consequently her departure for Napier, where she completes loading, has been postponed until 5 p»m. to-day. The vessel is now expected to clear Napier next Monday evening for New York, Halifax. London, Avonmouth, Glasgow and Liverpool, via Panama.
