MISSION TO SEAMEN
SAILORS ENTERTAINED Large numbers of seamen from the overseas vessels in port have visited the Flying Angel Mission to Seamen Institute during the week and have greatly appreciated the socials and outings arranged for them. On Monday evening the girls’ branch of the Harbour Lights Guild entertained the visitors at the institute, and on Tuesday the mission staff assisted in organising the interwatch sports of the steamer Devon, which were held at the naval depot by the courtesy of Commander N. Clover, R.N. In the evening a concert was given at the institute by the members of the St. Albans’ Girls’ Friendy Society. The programme was greatly appreciated by the visitors, and Chaplain H. K. Vickery, in thanking the artists, expressed the hope that they would repeat the entertainment at an early date. On Wednesday, a cricket match was arranged between the cadets from the Devon and the Dilworth Institute. The game was played on the Dilworth ground, and was won by the cadets t»y 117 runs to 53. After the game, Mr. N. Gibson and the house masters entertained the sailors. In the evening the St. Matthew’s members of the Girls’ Friendly Society and Toe H members arranged a pleasant social at the institute. Last evening Mrs. Milson, vicepresident of the Harbour Lights Guild, j was the hostess at the institute.
