TWO BOTTLES OF BEER
TWO MEN AND A FIGHT Disputed ownership of two bottles of beer resulted in W._ J. Forbes and W. Uncles being charged at the Police Court this morning with fighting in the street. Uncles did not appear, being now in Coromandel. Jack Robb said that Forbes, an elderly man, hit Uncles on the head with his walking stick, making a deep gash which necessitated the insertion of two stitches. Forbes’s story, which was corroborated by other witnesses, was that the blow was struck in self-defence. Uncles. who was a younger and stronger man than Forbes, had tried to take twrf bottles of beer from him and had backed him up against a shop window so that, had he not struck out, he would have been pushed through it. Mr. F. Iv. Hunt, S.M.: Just two bottles of beer, two men and a fight. The charge against Forbes was dismissed, Uncles being fined £ 1 and costs.
