UNITED POLICY ON RAILWAYS (From Our Own Correspondent) MATAMATA, Thursday. The United Party campaign opened at Matamata last evening, when Mr. C. H. Clinkard, candidate for Rotorua electorate, addressed the electors at the Town Hall. Mr. Clinkard had an excellent meeting, and was accorded a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence. Mr. J. Buchanan (chairman of the town board) presided. He said that the party’s policy was to complete as many of the main railway lines as possible. There should be more branch lines. He approved of the extension of Taupo, which would open up the largest area of unoccupied land 111 tAle Dominion, and assist in the dewhiXw? 1 ° f t , he , wood I ,U| P industry, which the candidate strongly advocated. New industries were wanted to ® employment to some 30,000 children leaving school every year. He favoured fair trade, with nrefEmpire ’ but not a policy wholes!i ade ' , which «-°uld cause wholesale unemployment.
