AIDING THE FARMER

LABOUR’S VIEWPOINT (From Our Own Correspondent) OHAKUNE, To-day. Asking the electors to take stock of political affairs, Mr. Frank Lang-stone, Labour candidate for Waimarino, addressed a meeting at the Patriotic Hall, Ohakune, last evening. Mr. Langs tone said there was much talk about the virtues of the Coates’ Government, but they all knew that the best farmer in New Zealand could spoil the best farm by mismanagement, and his contention was that the Reform Party was mismanaging the affairs of the Dominion.

The Coates’ Government had been elected to get things down, and in the first year it had got things done. The interest rate on State advances rose, but he contended that the Government* assisted by borrowed money, should have brought the rate down. Attacking the rural credits system, the candidate said it. was not a success because of the high rate of interest charged. The system assisted only one class of people, and he added that every enactment of the Government during the past three years had been class legislation. Mr. Langstone claimed that the Labour Party could remedy the present unsatisfactory situation, but this could not be done without money. A State bank would help, and if the Government could give money to the banks at 3 per cent., the people should be able to get it at that. The candidate was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence.
