ISLAND ORANGES FIRMING
AUSTRALIAN CHERRIES ARRIVE i Stocks of Island oranges were lighter on the City Markets to-day. Prices are increasing. The first cherries of the season arrived from Australia this week, and were sold to-day. They are in 121 b. boxes and are bringing up to 225. THIS week's shipment of citrus fruit from Australia was fairly large, and lias met with a good inquiry. Quantities of strawberries are increasing daily. These, with gooseberries, are in good demand. Local lemons are still dull oi sale. Apples are selling faster. Heavy supplies of cabbage, cauliflower* and lettuce are features of the i vegetable market. Green peas and new potatoes are in fair supply. There is a keen demand for most vegetable lines, but rates are slightly reduced from last week’s. Baconer pigs are bringing £3 6s to £3 18s in the markets; porkers, £2 to £2 10s; slips, 17s to £1 6s; and weaners,*los to 18s. ! Poultry supplies are ample. Competition for cockerels is exceptionally brisk, but the demand for hens and roosters is below the expected inquiry for this time of the year. Cheaper duck eggs have resulted in supplies of ducks being consigned freely, with a fair demand, at low prices.
