TRIBUTE TO OPPONENTS
OPENING UP PUMICE LANDS Speaking in the Mount Ro3kill Hall last evening Mr. G. C. Munns, the United Party candidate for Roskill, paid a tribute to his opponents in the electorate, saying that he had never fought in a cleaner campaign or against more courteous adversaries. He devoted most of his speech to a criticism of the Reform Party. He stressed the importance of opening up the Taupo pumice district for settlement, and said it was part of the United Party’s programme to open to the fullest extent all the pumice land now lying idle, as it had been proved beyond question that with proper treatment and attention the soil was capable of valuable would mean a large increase in land available for the smaller farmers, which it was the party’s policy to aid. A unanimous vote of confidence in the candidate was passed.
