“WANTS A GOOD HIDING”
BELLIGERENT FINED £lO BROKE SMALLER MAN’S NOSE “S'omeone more His own weight ought to give him a good hiding,” said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., of Joseph Kane, at the Police Court this morning. Kane, a labourer, aged 24, who was represented by Mr. Fraer, pleaded guilty under provocation to assaulting Eric Draper. According to counsel, Kane, who was supporting a widowed mother, had interfered on the side of an old man who had been knocked about in an hotel bar. “When he has had a few drinks a fight draws him like a magnet,” Mr. Fraer explained. Sub-Inspector McCarthy thought there was another side to the story. Kane had attacked Draper without provocation, breaking his nose. Mr. Fraer: Kane will take out a prohibition order. Perhaps £ 5 would cover the expenses. Mr. McCarthy: I would not like my nose broken for £5.
Mr. Hunt: No, and I would not like mine broken for £lO. Kane was fined £ 10, half of the amount to go to Draper. “There will be no question of a fine next time,” was Mr. Hunt’s parting warning.
