CITY OF SYDNEY LOAN NEGLECTED FOR PERUVIAN - ISSUE (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, Tuesday. Subscriptions to the City of Sydney loan, which was issued on Friday, have not reached expectations, the loan having met with competition from numerous issues yielding high returns, notably a Peruvian 6 per cent, loan at 91. This yields £6 16s per cent., allowing for redemption, whereas the yield from Sydney’s issue is only £5 7s 2d per cent. The Peruvian issue was largely overbut. the underwriters have been left with 72 per cent, of the Sydney issue. The amount of the Sydney loan has not been cabled. BRUCE WOOLLEN COY. SMALL PROFIT FOR YEAR A net profit of £7,297 is shown in the balance sheet of the Bruce Woollen Manufacturing Company for the year ended September 19, 1928. As a result of trading extending over a number of years, a customer had become so heavily indebted to the company that, on his business being wound up, the account showed a debit of £3,993. This loss has been charged against the profits. Provision has also been made for depreciation to the extent of £2,000 on plant, and the directors recommend that out of the balance of the profit, £1,324, the dividend and interest on preference capital, amounting to £1,0G4, be paid, and that £259 be carried forward. The latter includes £39 brought in from the previous year.

The company reported a net profit of £9,05G in 1926, and paid a dividend of 7 per cent, on the capital of £IOO,OOO. Last year its accounts showed a loss of £1,5G7, reducing the balance brought forward to £39. The decision to increase the capital to £150,000 by the creation of 50,000 7 per cent, cumulative preference shares of £1 each was made at a special meeting in July, 1927. At the date of the balance sheet the paid-up capital was £127,211. Bank overdraft at £55,933 shows an increase of £2,757. The principal assets are: Plant account, £57,536, a reduction of £1,826; premises. £34,554; stock, £97,404, an increase of £27,942: and book debts, £ 1d,891, a reduction of £9,105.
