DEATH ABOARD MARAMA

SHIP IN HEAVY SEAS (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) SYDNEY, Tuesday. On the voyage of the Marama from Wellington to Sydney the steamer experienced a severe southerly gale when she was a day off the Australian coast, with a nasty short sea. The ship arrived with her flag at half-mast. -A passenger, who is believed to be Mr. David Hannah, died during the height of the gale yesterday. The body was brought to Sydney for post-mortem examination. Papers found in his pockets suggest that the deceased was a resident of Christchurch, aged 41. The Marama’s boarding gangway was carried away, and two portholes in the saloon were stove in.
