GIRL GUIDES’ CORNER

Dancing Star, of the First Takapuna Company, reports: “At our first meeting in October the patrol cup was presented to the For-get-me-nots, the ribbon for smartness and neatness being won by the For-get-me-nots and the Cornflowers. “There was a good attendance of Guides at the church parade at the Church on October 21. “Wo are starting to make our own basketball court on our Guide section, and every Saturday an enthusiastic party of .girls, armed with spades, digs energetically for several hours. . “At the meeting held on October 26 service stars were presented, a great number of girls having gained them, aiid on October 27. we celebrated our seventh birthday party. Items were given during the evening, and games and competitions were held. The patrol corners were decorated, and each patrol looked after a certain number of guests. “On the same afternoon a practice for the forthcoming'rally was held at the Belmont School. Our company is preparing the Florence Nightingale item. “All the companies on the North Shore are forming Greenland and the West Indies on the huge map of the wovld that is to be made by Guides at the rally.” * * * Moon Dreamer writes that the First Cambridge Company intend holding a dance this evening, and that the sixth birthday party of the company will take place on November 10. Recently the Guide Gymnasium Class gave a demonstration of club-swinging at a concert, the clubs being decorated with green and yellow, the company colours. They were also responsible for a horizontal bar display and a pyramid. Littlo New Leaf reports the Kakamai activities for September: “The great feature of this month was our bazaar, which was held on the last Saturday. The day was beautiful and, as a result, a large number of people gathered in the hall. There were fancy goods, produce, jumble, plain-sewing, sweet and Brownie stalls, besides several side-shows. Miss Knight, our Commissioner, opened the bazaar, after which she was presented with a beautiful bouquet by one of the Brownies. “Earlier in the month the St. George’s Guides, Scouts, Cubs, and the Kakamai Guides and Rangers gathered at St. George’s Church, where a combined church parade was held. “The rest of the month was devoted to second-class work and country dancing.” * * * On Saturday 40 members of th 4 Frankton Girl Guides paid a return visit to Morrinsville, accompanied by , their committee, and were the guests of rthe Morrinsville Company. The visitors were under Commissioner Toombes and Captain Patterson. An enjoyable afternoon was spent at the New Regent in games, competitions and musical numbers. Captain Allen. Lieutenant Cargill and acting-Lieutenant R. Pickett were in charge of the Morrinsvilje Guides.
