Born in the district for which he is now standing, he spent many years in Poverty Bay, where he engaged in sheep-farming, while giving many years of service to local bodies and public institutions. He is a past Chairman of the COOK COUNTY COUNCIL and GISBORNE HARBOUR BOARD; was for 14 years a Governor of the GISBORNE HIGH SCHOOL BOARD, and for 16 years was a Member of the GISBORNE HOSPITAL BOARD. While retaining an interest in Farming through his Waioru sheep run, MR.
