SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION
ANNUAL REPORT RECEIVED OFFICERS ELECTED Last evening the Rev. F. A. Thompson presided over the annual meeting of the Auckland Sunday School Union. According to the report, 364 schools, containing 3,099 teachers and 30,436 pupils, belonged to the Union. During the last year 10 schools had joined the Union. Long service certificates had been awarded during the year as follow: Mr. F. Rowe, Newton Congregational School, for 50 years’ service; Mr. E. A. Dillon, Eden Terrace Methodist, 45 years; Mr. A. W. Martin, Cambridge Methodist, 45 years; Mrs. A. W. Martin, Cambridge Methodist, 43 years; Mrs. M. Hobson, Newton Congregational, 35 years; Mr. E. J. Easter, Cambridge Methodist, 30 years; Mr. Wm. Rew, St. Stephen’s Presbyterian, 25 years; Mr. tV. J. Johnson. Taneatua Presbyterian, 25 years; and Mr. F. Yeoman, Opouria School, 25 years. The annual scripture examination had been competed in by 1,688 candidates, representing 137 schools. The results were;—Prizes, 415; first-class certificates. 527; second-class, 273; pass only, 224; remainder, 251. Th€ election of officers resulted: President, Rev. F. A. Thompson; vicepresidents, Messrs. S. E. Chappell, R. S. Abee, G. Falla; general treasurer, Mr. W. A. Kendon: general secretary, Rev. L. B. Bush field ; executive, Misses Dora Earle, C. Haig and Winstone, Mrs. Piece, Messrs. T. E. Fraser, F. W. Gaze, A. Greenman, W. H. Newton, A. R. Penman, J. Tyler, R. U. Utting and C. H. Virtue; trade* committe, Messrs. J. tV. Court, S. E. Chappell, W. D. M. Glaister, W.A. Kendon, A. E. Lawry and E. Smith. A special welcome was given Mr. George Winstone, senr., who has been a member of the union for over 60 years.
