NORTHCOTE BOROUGH
Before proceeding' with the ordinary business of the Northcote Borough Council last evening, the Mayor, Mr. A. E. Greenslade, moved that the sympathy of the members be conveyed to the DeputyMayor, Mr. H. Weaver, in the loss of his only son, who died in America. The motion was carried in silence. The town clerk of Takapuna is to be . requested to furnish the amount of the council’s liability regarding the cost of the combined destructor. The secretary of the Post and Tele- ! graph Department, Wellington, advised that the installation of a public call , office in Queen Street has been approved, and the work will be proceeded with in due course. Permission was granted to the New Zealand Society for the Protection of Women and Children to hold a street , collection in the borough on Friday, - November 30. Correspondence was read showing that > no definite promise of a reduction in bus > fares had been made, but that Mr. E. J. Fraser, the manager of the bus company, had merely expressed the opinion that a reduction might be possible when the roadway was concreted.
