TE ATIAWA NOT STARTING AUSSIE AND AWARERE WELL Latest advices indicate that Tea Time 5s a doubtful runner in the Avoca Handicap, the second leg of the double. Te Atiawa was scratched for the Avoca Handicap at 8.30 p.m. yesterday. Among the horses due to arrive today is F. Loorab's team. A large number of country horses arrived yesterdav, and a further contingent to-day will complete the provincial quota for the Dargaville fixture. Gallops at Avondale The inside grass at Avondale was again in use for fast work this morning, though quite a number using it were not sent against time. The best gallops of the morning were registered by Aussie and Awarere over

five furlongs, which pair, separately, ran 3.2 1-5 for the distance. Valkon, looking bright after his recent racing, was timed to run home from the six-furlong peg in 1.17, with the pace right on from the five-furlong disk. Papatu was in front of Schorr at the end of six, run in 1.17 3-5. Flying Juliet had the better of The Lamb when she ran five furlongs in 1.3 1-5. Monetize covered half a mile in 52, and Bulolo ran five in 1.3. 3-5. Professor and Aggressive showed 41 for three, and Camp Prince was in front of Envoy over the same distance in 38. Princess Rain and Tidal sprinted home freely at the end of their work, and Gigolo hit out very boldly when set to go the pace in the home stretch. King Smock, a lazy track worker, took 1.6 1-5 from the five-furlong disk. The Begum, bearing a bright appearance, was not after time. Serang and Nassock just broke 38 in a three-furlong dash, and Maori Boy took 39 1-5 for three furlongs. A number of others were out, but were mainly at useful pace only. Abbey Queen, who finished right up behind the dead-heaters. Storm Fiend and Maori *Boy, at Avondale last, month, ran two fair races recently at Te Rapa and Cambridge, finishing second at the latter place, but her form was somewhat disappointing. She has her chance to improve in the hack sprint at the Dargaville meeting.
