NEW MAORI COUNCILLORS

LADY NGATA AND LADY CARROLL Preas Association WELLINGTON, Monday. Lady Ngata, wife of Sir Apirana Ngata, has been appointed a member of the Horutu Maori Council, under the Maori Councils Act of 1920. Lady Carroll has also been appointed as official member of the Maori Council for the district of Takitimu. These two appointments are unique as being the first occasion on which women have been appointed to Maori councils. The new members given their services, believing they will be able to accelerate the activities or the councils in their respective districts.
