NO PERSONALITIES
MR. GREVILLE’S WISHES That he fiad no desire for personalities in the election campaign was made clear by Mr. R. H. Greville, United candidate for Waitemata, at a meeting at Narrow Neck last evening. Referring to the harbour bridge question, the speaker asserted that Mr. A. Harris, M.P., knew that the statement he had made deprecating Mr. Greville’s activities in securing a Government grant for the bridge association was absolutely false. He produced a letter from the association thanking him for his services. With regard to a statement he had previously made in respect to Mr. Harris not having paid his dues to the association, Mr. Greville stated that he unreservedly withdrew his assertion. He trusted that Mr. Harris would follow his example in claiming “kudos” in connection with the bridge agitation which he had done in a speech at Bayswater.
Replying to an interjection that he would do better if he kept off the personal touch, Mr. Greville said he had no wish to indulge in personalities, but Mr. Harris had set the ball rolling, and when he had retaliated, the Reform candidate had taken umbrage. A vote of thanks and confidence was carried, and an amendment for a vote of no-confidence was defeated. Mr. J. Woodall wac chairman.
