AWKWARD SITUATION

ACCORDING to an exchange. the hangahua Trotting Club and Reefton Jockey Club have come to loggerheads over the payment by the Trotting Club for the use of the Reefton racecourse. The Trotting Club has a lease of the course, payment being a percentage on the gate -eceipts. Last season the Trotting Club held its meeting at Greymouth after abandoning its proposed meeting on the Reefton racecourse. The Jockey Club has asked for payment for the use of the course for the past year, and the Trotting Club contends that, not having used the track, it is not liable for any payment. In reply, the Reefton Jockey Club has asked for payment, failing which that club will not allow the Inangahua Trotting Club the use of the racecourse for this season’s fixture. And there the question stands at present.
