FRANCIS GETS DECISIVE WIN IN ROAD CYCLING

LAST EVENT OF SEASON The 1928 road-racing season closed on Saturday at Mangere, with an open handicap race to Papakura and back, staged by the Auckland Athletic and Cycling Club, and won in decisive fashion by W. Francis, Papakura. Francis rode a remarkable race off the 2min 30sec mark, completely outclassing the rest of the field, and also secured fastest time. Following are the results: W. Francis, 2min 30sec, 1; D. Storey, 3min, 2; R. Clark, smin 30sec, 3: R. Rae, 4min. 4. Time, lhr 26min 22sec. Fastest time: W. Francis, 2min 30s, lhr ISmin 52sec. Nineteen started. After the finish, the following trophies were presented to the successful riders: Pardington Champion Challenge Cup, J. Henderson; Pardington Challenge Shield, N. Healey; Auckland Cycling Club’s Points Cup. F. Prior; G. Mathieson Cup. F. Potter; H Tonkin’s Cup. J. Henderson.
