GARDEN PARTY HELD FOR MEMORIAL LEAGUE

DELIGHTFUL FUNCTION IS FINANCIAL SUCCESS In the gardens of “Hounslow,” Mrs. A. Kidd’s attractive home at Gillies* Avenue, a very successful garden party was held on Saturday afternoon for the purpose of raising funds to assist the work of the Mayoress War Memorial Library League, which consists of sending books and magazines to people in all the outlying parts of the country, as well as to the inmates of hospitals and other institutions. The Mayoress of Auckland, Mrs. A. D. Campbell, was present, and introduced Mrs. W. H. Parkes, who formally declared the function open. Stalls were arranged at vantage points in the picturesque grounds, and the stall-holders were as follows: Plain and fancy goods, Mrs. Mathias and Mrs. P. McGregor; cakes, Mrs. E. McNair; flowers, plants, produce, etc., Mrs. S. P. Jones and Mrs. Morpeth; sweets and drinks, Mrs. A. Hall and Miss Newbegin; handkerchiefs, Mrs. P. Webster. A novel stall that showed the interesting and useful work done by the league in renovating books and magazines and in making toys, scrapbooks, calendars and other novel things for children, was under the super- i vision of Sirs. E. Avroll, and after- j noon tea, which was served at tables on the terraces and lawns, was looked j after by Miss Wight and the girls of ! the Query Club. Miss Flatt was in ! charge of the gate.
