SYDNEY BRIDGE BUILDER

DIRECTOR OF FIRM DEAD (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, Thursday. The death has occurred of Sir Hugh Bell, a director of Dorman, Long and Company, Ltd., which firm is building the Sydney Harbour bridge. He was 84 years old. Sir Hugh when in Australia five years ago said that his one ambition was to live until he was 90, because he had promised to go to Sydney in 1933. to open the bridge. Sir Hugh Bell, who was an ironmaster and colliery owner, was born in 1844 and succeeded to the baronetcy in 1904. He was educated at Merchiston School, Paris and Gottingen. He was a director of Brunner, Mond and Company, Dorman, Long and Company, the London and North-Eastern Railway, Yorkshire. Insurance Company, and other concerns. His widow, Lady Bell, is a well-known novelist and playwright. His heir is Lieut.-Colonel Maurice H. L. Bell ____
