MATAMATA POST OFFICE Advice has been received that the Ma.tama.ta Tost Office has been raised a grade higher in the classification li. tMr. I-*. Flower, postmaster, is also out for promotion, anil he therefore remains in his present position. The rebuilding operations are now approaching completion, and when linishtt will give greatly improved accommodation for both the public and officials. Mr. 11. Long, of the Matamata staff, has been transferred to Tirau.

TE PUKE PRESENTATION
The staff of the Farmers’ Union Trading Company’s Te Puke branch met 01 Tuesday night at Mr. Guthrie's resident to bid farewell to Mr. M. Stewart, whu is shortly leaving the firm. Mr. Guthrt presented Mr. Stewart with a liandsom e clock on behalf of the members of tfo staff, and wished him good luck in his new surroundings. Mr. Stewart returned thanks on behalf of Mrs. Stewar and himself. Songs were given by Guthrie, Mr. Anderson, and Mrs. Stewart. NEW LYNN TOWN BOARD The New Lynn Town Board met on Tuesday, Mr. W. L. Titchener presiding. The board’s engineer reported that the various drainage contracts were all proceeding satisfactorily. The engineer also reported having been in communication with the Railway Department regarding a suggestion that the lev*: railway crossing in Titirangi Road should be eliminated, but at present the depanmen t could not entertain the proposal The town clerk reported that th? building inspector had issued a permit for the erection of a shop and dwelling in Titirangi Road. In view of the fact that the board in its town-planning policy had defined the area hi which shops may be erected in this part of tfcf district, and that all applications for permits to build shops must first be considered by the Works Committee, the board ordered the withdrawal of th* permit.
